The One Thing That Determines How Successful You Can Be

The one thing that determines the level of our potential, produces the intensity of our activity and predicts the quality of the result we receive—our attitude.
Attitude determines how much of the future we are allowed to see. It decides the size of our dreams and influences our determination when we are faced with new challenges.
No other person on earth has dominion over our attitude. People can affect our attitude by teaching us poor thinking habits or unintentionally misinforming us, or providing us with negative sources of influence, but no one can control our attitude unless we voluntarily surrender that control.
No one else “makes us angry.” We make ourselves angry when we surrender control of our attitude. What someone else may have done is irrelevant. We choose; not they. They merely put our attitude to a test. If we select a volatile attitude by becoming hostile, angry, jealous or suspicious, then we have failed the test. If we condemn ourselves by believing that we are unworthy, then again, we have failed the test.
If we care at all about ourselves, then we must accept full responsibility for our own feelings. We must learn to guard against those feelings that have the capacity to lead our attitude down the wrong path, and to strengthen those feelings that can lead us confidently into a better future.
If we want to receive the rewards the future holds in trust for us, then we must exercise the most important choice given to us as members of the human race by maintaining total dominion over our attitude. Our attitude is an asset, a treasure of great value that must be protected accordingly.
When you have the right attitude, you can do the remarkable.
Having the right attitude is an essential prerequisite for success and happiness. The right attitude is one of the fundamentals of the good life. That is why we must constantly examine our feelings about our role in the world and about our possibilities for achieving our dreams.
It is our emotional nature that governs most of our daily conduct in our personal and business world. It is the emotional aspect of our experiences that determines our behavior. How we feel about life’s events is a powerful force that can either freeze us in our tracks or inspire us to take immediate action on any given day. With the right attitude, human beings can move mountains. With the wrong attitude, they can be crushed by the smallest grain of sand.

Omega-3 fatty acid supplementation improves performance in trained cyclists

At a Glance:

A new study shows that supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil may improve exercise performance in trained athletes by increasing blood flow, nitric oxide release, and maximum oxygen uptake.

Read more about this research below:

There is a small but growing body of scientific evidence supporting the sports nutrition benefit of omega-3 fatty acids.  In a new study published in the European Journal of Sport Science researchers evaluated the effects of omega-3 fatty acid supplementation on exercise performance of a small group of trained cyclists.

The study included 13 elite cyclists that were randomly selected to take either 1.3 grams of omega-3 supplements or a placebo daily for 3 weeks.  Researcher’s analyzed flow-mediated dilation (FMD, a measure of blood flow and vascular health), pulse wave velocity, serum markers (nitric oxide (NO) and asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA), and ultrasound measurements of endothelial function and maximum oxygen uptake both before and after the supplementation period.

Researchers observed a significant difference between the pre- and post-intervention baseline NO levels after the omega-3 supplementation, but not in the placebo group.  There was also a positive correlation between the increased concentration of NO and maximum oxygen uptake in the supplemented athletes. The supplemented group also experienced a 5.25% increase in flow-mediated dilation (blood flow) that was not seen in the placebo group.

These findings suggest that an increase in nitric oxide levels resulting from omega-3 fatty acid supplementation may play an important role in cardiovascular mechanisms of adaptation that may enhance exercise performance in trained athletes.

7 Skills to Boost Your #USANA Business

Motivating. Inspiring. Business-Changing. No matter how you phrase it, our recent U.S. Celebration was an event to remember.

What made it so memorable? The amazing insights of network marketing expert Eric Worre, of course.

Surely you were there taking notes. But if not, we’ve got you covered.

According to the expert, skills are the key to success in this business. Once you master the seven major skills, the fear disappears.

Which means it’s time to take a close look in the mirror to evaluate where you stand, and find places to improve. Look over the skills listed below and rate yourself on a scale of 1–10:

  1. Finding Potential Teammates
How are you at finding people? 0 = your address book is empty, 10 = you have more people than you have time to meet with. Make a conscious decision to get out of your shell and contact at least two new people a day.

  2. Inviting
Are you good at getting people to take a look at what you have and helping them understand it? Or are you scared to open your mouth? Your goal is to educate others and help them understand what you have to offer. Then you can help them make a decision.

  3. Presenting
Do you have a way to present that duplicates and gets results? Do you do it all yourself or drag others to join? Try telling your story—keep it brief, impactful, and exciting. And teach your team to do the same. Record yourself and listen to it over and over until you feel confident and the words sound natural. Learn the presentation and become the best on your team.

  4. Following Up
The fortune is in the follow-up. How are you at keeping in touch? It usually takes four to six exposures before someone will join. How many times will you follow up? Amateurs follow up once; experts persevere. Make objections your best friends, and make questions your go-to tools.

  5. Closing
How good are you at sealing the deal? Need some help? Try asking a few questions after you present, for example:
    1. What did you like best?
    2. On a scale of 1–10, how interested are you in joining USANA?
    3. Just between us, how much would you have to earn to make this worth your time?
    4. How many hours are you willing to commit each week?
    5. How many months will you commit to developing your business?
    6. If I show you how to make this happen, would you get on board?

  6. Getting People Started
Once a new team member signs up, do you cut the strings and let them go? Hopefully not, because that’s when the real work begins. Guide your new teammate through our compensation plan and tools, and make sure they connect with us online. Set up regular interviews to find out where they’re at in their business, and make a game plan for meeting their goals.

  7. Promoting Events
Is your business focused on events? If not, it should be. Events are the best way to build belief, boost your business, and bond with your team. Now, that’s some serious motivation. So, how many teammates and guests are you bringing?

Time to tally your score. How did you do?

Now that you have the results, pick a few skills you want to improve over the next few weeks. Then study, study, study, and practice, practice, practice.

Share your skill-boosting journey and connect with other Associates along the way using the #myUSANAcommitment hashtag. And be sure to mark August 19–22 on your calendar for the business-boosting event of the year, International Convention 2015—see you there!

Long-term use of a daily multivitamin/mineral may lower cancer risk in middle-aged and older men - #USANA

Long-term use of a daily multivitamin/mineral may lower cancer risk in middle-aged and older men

At a Glance:

A daily multivitamin/ mineral supplement taken long-term may help reduce cancer risk in middle-aged and older men.

Read more about this research below:

A large study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, using data obtained from the Physicians' Health Study II, has found that the use of a daily multivitamin/ mineral supplement long term can reduce the risk of cancer occurrence.

In this randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled study of approximately 14,641 male physicians ages 50 or older from the United States, participants were randomly assigned to take a daily multivitamin/ mineral supplement or a placebo between 1997 and June 2011. During the median follow-up of 11.2 years, researchers recorded 2,669 cancer cases, including 1,373 prostate cancer cases and 210 colorectal cancer cases. When examining outcomes at the study's end, the researchers found an 8 percent reduction in total cancer occurrence among participants assigned to multivitamin use.

Although the main reason to take multivitamins is to prevent nutritional deficiency, this study reinforces the value of long-term consistent use of a daily multivitamin as a convenient and affordable insurance policy for good health and possible cancer prevention in middle-aged and older adults.

#USANA Health Sciences Reports Strong First Quarter 2015 Financial Results

News Release

USANA Health Sciences Reports Strong First Quarter 2015 Financial Results
  • First quarter net sales increased 20.3% to $219.4 million
  • First quarter EPS increased 30.4% to $1.50
  • Number of active Associates increased 41.9%
  • Company increases outlook for 2015; announces plans to enter 20th market
SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 5, 2015-- USANA Health Sciences, Inc. (NYSE: USNA) today announced financial results for its fiscal first quarter ended April 4, 2015. The Company also increased its financial outlook for 2015.

Financial Performance

For the first quarter of 2015, net sales increased by 20.3% to $219.4 million, compared with $182.4 million in the prior-year period. The increase in net sales was driven by 41.9% growth in the number of active Associates, largely as a result of strong Associate growth in the Company’s Asia Pacific region. Net sales, on a comparative basis, were positively impacted by: (i) continued momentum from the incentive program that the Company offered during the fourth quarter of 2014, which carried over for several weeks into the first quarter of 2015 in China, (ii) incremental sales that occurred ahead of price increases announced in China during the quarter, and (iii) a more favorable operating environment in China compared to the prior-year period. The Company estimates that the incremental sales ahead of the price increases in China contributed approximately $12 million to net sales for the quarter. Net sales, on a comparative basis, were negatively impacted by $9.2 million due to a strengthening U.S. dollar.

Net earnings for the first quarter increased by 19.0% to $19.7 million, compared with $16.5 million during the prior-year period. The increase in net earnings was driven by higher net sales. Although gross margins improved year-over-year by 100 basis points, and selling, general and administrative expense decreased relative to net sales, higher Associate Incentives expense offset these improvements. On a relative basis, Associate Incentives expense increased 300 basis points, due largely to the previously noted incentive program. Although we expected Associate Incentives to be elevated again during the first quarter as a result of this incentive, it came in modestly higher than anticipated.

Earnings per diluted share for the quarter increased 30.4% to $1.50, compared with $1.15 in the first quarter of the prior year. The increase in earnings per share was attributable to higher net earnings and a lower number of diluted shares outstanding due to the Company’s share repurchases during 2014. Weighted average diluted shares outstanding were 13.1 million as of the end of the first quarter of 2015, compared with 14.4 million in the prior-year period. During the first quarter of 2015, the Company did not repurchase any shares of common stock.

The Company ended the first quarter with $128.6 million in cash and cash equivalents, zero debt and $61.2 million remaining under the current share repurchase authorization.

“The first quarter was an excellent start to another promising year for USANA,” said Kevin Guest, USANA’s President. “Our results for the quarter were better than expected, notwithstanding the typical pressure from the Chinese New Year and continued headwinds from a strengthening U.S. dollar. As reported, our double-digit sales, earnings and customer growth during the quarter were driven by the strong momentum we continue to see across our business and higher-than-expected sales in China.
“We also recently announced plans to enter Indonesia later this year, which will mark a milestone 20th market for USANA. Indonesia represents an excellent growth opportunity for our company in a market whose middle class is expected to double over the next five years. Our team is enthusiastic about the potential of this new market opportunity in Asia, a region that continues to generate significant growth for USANA,” continued Mr. Guest.

Regional Results

Net sales in the Asia Pacific region increased by 31.4% to $155.9 million, compared with $118.6 million for the first quarter of the prior year. This year-over-year increase can be attributed to 43.0% sales growth in the Greater Chinaregion, 12.1% sales growth in the Southeast Asia Pacific region, and 26.6% sales growth in the North Asia region. Sales growth in Greater China was driven by triple-digit sales and customer growth in Mainland China, while growth in Southeast Asia Pacific resulted from double-digit sales and customer growth in most markets in that region. Finally, sales growth in North Asia was driven by double-digit sales and customer growth in South Korea. The number of active Associates in the Asia Pacific region increased by 58.5% year-over-year, and increased 9.8% sequentially. Net sales in the Asia Pacific region were negatively impacted by $5.5 million, on a year-over-year comparative basis, due to a strengthening U.S. dollar.

Net sales in the Americas/Europe region were essentially flat at $63.5 million, due primarily to continued pressure from a strengthening dollar, which negatively impacted sales by $3.7 million. The Company’s results in this region were driven by double-digit local currency sales growth in Canada and Mexico. The number of active Associates in this region increased by 4.9% compared to the prior-year period.

“We continue to see strong sales and customer growth in most of our markets worldwide and expect this momentum to continue during 2015,” continued Mr. Guest. “While China continued to lead the way, it is noteworthy that we generated double-digit growth in many of our markets around the world. Customer growth continues to be our primary objective, as we focus on improving the overall health and nutrition of individuals and families around the world.”

Outlook

The Company provided the following updated consolidated net sales and earnings per share outlook for 2015:

  • Consolidated net sales between $870 million and $890 million, versus the previous outlook of between $850 million and $870 million
  • Earnings per share between $6.45 and $6.75, versus the previous outlook of between $6.40 and $6.70
“USANA generated solid results during the first quarter,” said Chief Financial Officer, Paul Jones. “We are updating our outlook for 2015 due to our stronger-than-expected first quarter performance and the general momentum we are seeing in our business. While Associate Incentives expense was elevated again this quarter as a result of the incentive program that carried over into 2015, we expect this expense to begin to trend down beginning in the second quarter. Our outlook includes the previously announced investments to strengthen our infrastructure, build even greater brand-awareness, and drive product and technology innovation. Our outlook also reflects our confidence in the fundamental strength of our business, ability to execute our growth strategies, and belief that 2015 will be another record year for USANA.”
