The #1 Wealth Building Secret

By Randy Gage in Critical Thinking, Prosperity, Success.

Last post we looked at the excuses entrepreneurs make to convince themselves that their customers won’t spend money with them. We saw how those entrepreneurs were actually buying into an erroneous limiting belief, and inhibiting their own sales.

There was a great response to that post, yet some people felt it didn’t apply to them, because they weren’t business owners. So if you were one of them – this is the post for you! In it, I will reveal the number one secret to building wealth for an individual.

You might have read the last post and said, “That stuff works for you, because you have a business. I’m stuck in a dead-end job and I’m at the mercy of my cheap boss who never wants to give me a raise. I would love to start a business and be my own boss, but I don’t have the money.”

Here’s what I want to say to you:

Stop it. Just stop it.

In every situation you always have two options: be a victim or be a victor. If you give away your power to anyone – your boss, the economy, the government, etc. – you’re almost certainly guaranteeing yourself a life of struggle and lack. You have to take responsibility for your own prosperity and success. And you really can create them.

ANYONE can start a business today. There are businesses you can start with a few thousand dollars, some you can start for a few hundred dollars, and even some you can start with five dollars.

To say that you’re searching for prosperity is like a fish swimming around looking for water.

Prosperity is surrounding you everywhere; it is in the ethers all around you. And the way you manifest it on the physical plane is through the power of ideas.

When I was 15 years old I was delivering The Capital Times newspaper in Madison, Wisconsin. I knew some people who went to the drug store on Sundays to buy the New York Times. Others were Cubs or Bears fans and they wanted to read the Chicago Tribune. Political junkies bought the Washington Post. So I wrote all those papers and offered to become their distributor in Madison. They all accepted me and “Gage Distributors” was formed. I made up and copied some flyers and soon had dozens of new customers all over my neighborhood. Later I sold that business for the whopping total of $1,500. I turned being a paperboy into a residual income, into a business that could actually be sold.

Let’s go back to the last post and the two ways prosperity is created:

Solve problems - Add value

The best business ideas are the ones that solve problems, add value, or even better, both. Anytime you see someone with a problem, you have a business opportunity to create wealth. Anytime you think of a way to speed up, improve or reduce costs in any process, you have a business opportunity to create wealth.

Kids who start young earning money become decidedly better entrepreneurs. They learned from raking leaves, shoveling snow, babysitting, delivering newspapers, running a lemonade stand, or mowing lawns. And those are all things even an adult could do now to earn some extra money.

You can also do house sitting, pet sitting, dog walking, or a personal concierge service. Every one of those businesses can be started small and grown larger. If you want to be really savvy, you look for ways to leverage them.

Leverage is one of the true accelerators for creating wealth. Because leverage allows you to escape from the trap of trading hours for currency. The greatest fortunes in the world – from Carnegie, Getty and Rockefeller to Jobs, Gates and Walmart – were all built using the concept of leverage in some way.

The reason I recommend the business models of real estate, network marketing and information entrepreneur is because they all allow an average person without large investments or resources to apply the concept of leverage.

Of the three business models I mentioned, real estate does require the most money and knowledge. But with that knowledge, a small amount of money allows you to invest in a much larger property. So you have an opportunity to leverage your investment.

If you don’t have a lot of money, consider network marketing. For a few hundred to around $1,000, you can start a business that can eventually provide you a 5- or 6-figure residual income. There are many fine companies offering a broad range of products and services, so it’s relatively easy to find one congruent with your interests.

If network marketing doesn’t interest you, consider becoming an information entrepreneur. Information is more valuable than gold, diamonds or money, because people are willing to trade all those things for the right information.

You know how to do certain things. There are other people who would pay money to learn how to do those things. You can create physical products like books and DVDs or simple sell digital versions. And the possibilities are endless.

Somewhere right now there are people who want to know how to raise healthy happy kids, how to write a book, how to become an archer, how to learn languages fast, how to invest in real estate, how to become an info entrepreneur, how to collect fine art, how to manage a team, how to lead an organization, how to design your dream home, how to harness your inner potential, how to build a log cabin, how to soup up your snowmobile, or any one of 465,887,456,345 other possible products.

Be willing to think laterally and creatively, don’t just buy into the usual possibilities. Driving a taxi is trading hours for currency. Creating Uber is leverage. Starting a lemonade stand is trading hours for currency. Franchising your lemonade stand is leverage. Starting a dog walking business is trading hours for currency. Selling a “how to” special report on how you open a dog walking business is leverage.

Sell wellness products and you make money. Join a network marketing business with wellness products and you make money, help others, and apply leverage.

Buy a tandem bicycle and offer rides and you could make money. Invest in six tandem bicycles, get some riders and you can apply leverage. Launch the first Uber for tandem bicycles. Or the first Uber for pedi-cabs. Or the first Uber for sailboats. Or gondolas. Or jets.

No one really has a money shortage. What they really suffer from is an idea shortage. The only thing between you and the prosperity you’re seeking is the right idea.

At the beginning, I promised to reveal to you the number one secret for building wealth and creating success. In the unlikely event you haven’t figured it out yet, let me disclose it now…

Stop selling yourself short.

6 Keys to Happiness

by Brian Tracy

Achieving your own happiness is the best measure of how well you are living your life and enjoying your relationships.

You can learn how to be happier and more fulfilled in everything you do with these six principles:

1. Everyone is different. Happiness in life is like a smorgasbord. If 100 people went to a buffet and each put food on their plate—in the quantity and mix that each felt would be most pleasing—every plate would be different. Happiness is the same way. Every person requires a particular combination of ingredients to feel the very best about themselves.

2. Listen to your heart. Only you can tell what it takes to make you happy. The only way to judge whether a job, a relationship, an investment or any decision is right for you is to get in touch with your feelings and really listen to your heart.

3. Be true to yourself. You’re true to yourself only when you follow your inner light. You’re being the very best person you can be only when you have the courage and the fortitude to allow your definition of happiness—whatever it might be—to be the guiding light of every part of your life.

4. There are no limits. Accept the notion that you deserve all the happiness you can honestly attain through the application of your talents and abilities. The more you like and respect yourself, the more deserving you will feel of the good things in life. And the more deserving you feel, the more likely you will attain and hold on to the happiness you are working toward.

5. Make happiness your key measure. You should make happiness the organizing principle of your life. Compare every possible action and decision you make against your standard of happiness to see whether that action would make you happier or less happy.

6. Pay the price. Of course there are countless times when you will have to do little things that don’t make you happy. Sometimes these interim steps don’t increase your happiness directly, but the bliss you achieve from attaining your goal will be so great that it totally overwhelms the temporary inconveniences and dissatisfactions you have to endure in order to get there.

13 Challenges to Pursue

by Jim Rohn

If you want to find success in life, here are 13 things to do right now:

1. Review your performance. Whether it's your communication skills, whether it's recent activity, whether it's as a CEO or whether it's on the job. Here's what my father said: “Always do more than you are paid for to make an investment in your future.”

2. Face your fears. That's how you conquer them. Don't dismiss them—face them.

3. Exercise your willpower to change direction. You don't have to keep doing what you've been doing the last six years if it's not yielding the benefits you want. Pick a new destination and go that way. Use your willpower to start the process. Clean up the errors. Invest it now in the next year. Watch it make the difference.

4. Admit your mistakes. Sometimes you have to admit them to others. One of the best phrases in the English language? “I'm sorry.”

5. Refine your goals. Set some higher goals. Go for something beyond what you thought you could do.

6. Believe in yourself. You've got to believe in the possibilities. There isn't a skill you can't learn; there isn't a discipline you can't try; there isn't a class you can't take; there isn't a book you can't read.

7. Ask for wisdom. This is communication of the highest source. Ask for wisdom that creates answers. Ask for the wisdom that creates faith to believe things are possible. Don't wish it was easier; wish you were better.

8. Invest your profits. Profits are better than wages. Wages make you a living; profits make you a fortune.

9. Live with intensity. You might as well turn it up a notch or two. Invest more of you in whatever you do. Be a little stronger; be a little wiser. Step up your vitality contribution. Put everything you've got into everything you do and then ask for more vitality, more strength and more vigor, more heart and more soul.

10. Find your place. If you just work on a job, find the best place you can serve well, and sure enough they'll ask you to occupy a better place. Keep doing your job well; do the very best you can. That's your best way out.

11. Demand integrity from yourself. Integrity is like loyalty. You can't demand it of someone else; you can only demand it of yourself. Be the best example of loyalty, and you'll get some loyal followers. Be the best example of integrity, and you'll have people around you who have integrity. Lead the way.

12. Welcome the disciplines. Disciplines build cities. A well-disciplined activity creates abundance, creates uniqueness, creates productivity.

13. Fight for what's right. If you want something valuable, you've got to fight for it. Fight the enemy and keep faith. Fight the illness and keep faith. Fight the evil and keep faith.

Higher magnesium intake is associated with lower type 2 diabetes risk

At a Glance:

A meta-analysis of 13 prospective cohort studies has found that magnesium intake is inversely associated with type 2 diabetes risk, and in a dose-dependent manner.

Read more about this research below:

Diabetes, and in particular Type 2 diabetes, is a growing health concern worldwide. Untreated or poorly controlled diabetes increases risks of many health conditions. Adults with diabetes are two to four times more likely to have heart disease or a stroke than adults without diabetes. Experts agree that diet plays an important role in the development and progression of type 2 diabetes. According to epidemiological evidence magnesium intake may be related to the incidence of diabetes. Magnesium is found primarily in whole grains, nuts and green leafy vegetables, and is an essential cofactor in enzymes involved in glucose metabolism.

In a study published in Diabetes Care, researchers conducted a meta-analysis to examine the association between magnesium intake and the risk of type 2 diabetes. The study included 13 prospective cohort studies and 536,318 participants. The included studies were published between 1999 and 2010 and involved follow-ups of up to 20 years.

After adjusting for geographic location, follow-up length, gender, or family history of type 2 diabetes, the combined studies indicated a significant (22%) reduction of risk of type 2 diabetes when comparing the highest magnesium intake group to the lowest. The inverse association was also more pronounced in overweight individuals, suggesting that high magnesium intake may have greater effects on improving insulin sensitivity in overweight individuals who are prone to insulin resistance. In the analysis of dose-response it was found that for every 100 mg/day increment in magnesium intake there was a 14% reduction in type 2 diabetes risk.

The results of this study provide additional evidence that magnesium, in a dose-dependent manner, is associated with a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes.

USANA Essentials of Health - Vitamin D

Low vitamin D levels are related to progression of knee osteoarthritis

At a Glance:

A new study in patients with knee osteoarthritis indicates that insufficient vitamin D serum levels may be related to an increased risk of progressive knee osteoarthritis.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease that mainly affects cartilage, causing functional limitation and disability particularly in the elderly. It is estimated that over 27 million individuals over the age of 65 suffer from osteoarthritis, which most commonly affects the knee. Vitamin D plays many biological and functional roles in joint health, so vitamin D status may play a role in the progression of knee osteoarthritis.

In a new study published online in the Journal of Nutrition, researchers investigated whether serum vitamin D and parathyroid hormone (PTH) concentrations might predict the progression of knee OA. PTH is responsible for regulating the metabolism of vitamin D.

The study included 418 participants enrolled in the Osteoarthritis Initiative who had at least one knee with diagnosed osteoarthritis. Serum vitamin D and PTH were measured at the 30 or 36 month visit of the study, and progression of OA was defined as an increase in the joint space narrowing (JSN) score between the 2 and 4 year study visits.

The average serum vitamin D level of the participants was 26 ng/ml, while 16% of this population had levels below 15 ng/ml. Between the beginning of the study and follow-up visits, 14% of the subjects experienced joint space narrowing (increased JSN score). Subjects with a low vitamin D level (< 15 ng/ml) had twice the risk of elevated knee OA progression than the participants with vitamin D levels > 15 ng/ml. Although a high serum PTH itself was not associated with a significant increase in JSN score, individuals with both low vitamin D and high PTH (> 73 pg/ml) had a greater than 3 fold increased risk of OA progression.

The results of the present study suggest that individuals deficient in vitamin D have greater risk of osteoarthritis progression than those with normal vitamin D levels.
