Note the title? How often do we say that to another or, if not say it, how often do we think it?
If I were to be honest with myself, however, I’d have to admit, “No I don’t know what you’re thinking. I only know what I’m thinking.”
Let’s take it a step further: I only know what I think you must be thinking based upon my unique experiences and circumstances from the moment of my birth up until this point in my life.
And, all of those experiences and circumstances are based on a belief system formed by a combination of my upbringing, environment, schooling, media, etc. And, all of those are affected by everything else, causing an absolutely unique set of beliefs. And, the same can be said of you!
Which means that – no matter how good a “guesser” or logical thinker I am – I cannot possibly know exactly what you are thinking.
And you cannot possibly know exactly what I’m thinking.
Which means, we all need to be careful about what we assume, how we judge, false conclusions, false premises, misunderstandings, non-understandings, communication gaps, mis-communication and all those things that stand in the way of simpatico between peeps.
Solution? One is to ask, clarify, ask some more, continue to clarify. And, of course, continue the process until, while we may not know…we can get pretty darn close.

Help your new Associates reach Platinum PaceSetter so that you, and they, can participate in the USANAMatching Bonus Program
Some common “objections” I often hear from prospects (and some Associates) are – “I’m not a sales person”, or, “I don’t want to sell anything.”
My response is: “Great! I don’t like to sell either. I simply solve people’s problems, and show them how they can also solve other people’s problems.”
I explain that most people don’t like to be sold, but they love to buy. I try to learn about the prospect – What it is they need, want or don’t want (to quote Tim Sales). I then share information on some aspects of the USANA products or business which may provide a solution to their problem, or problems.
If you have to “sell” or “convince” prospects (or Associates) to purchase products or build a USANA business, then, in my opinion, you’re doing something wrong.
I prefer to show people how USANA can solve a problem (health, finances, etc.) for them, and then let them “buy” the solution that is best for them.
How about you?
Are you in the “selling” business, or the “problem solving business”?
Improve Your Status with PaceSetter Requalification
USANA’s new PaceSetter program was unveiled at the 2010 International Convention, and now is your chance to qualify for “annual” PaceSetter or Platinum PaceSetter status!
From August 27 to midnight (MDT), October 22, 2010, you have the opportunity to increase your Matching Bonus payout percentage by qualifying as a PaceSetter or Platinum PaceSetter. You will then enjoy your updated status until your next enrolment anniversary, at which point you’ll have eight weeks to requalify for “annual” status for the following year.
A Year of Benefits
If you didn’t qualify as a PaceSetter when you first joined USANA, you can still earn the same Matching Bonus payout percentage by qualifying as an “annual” PaceSetter or Platinum PaceSetter. A Premier PaceSetter and an "annual" PaceSetter both earn the same Matching Bonus payout—50 percent—but one qualifies for a lifetime of benefits, while the other has to qualify or requalify annually.
Your status:
You receive:
Premier Platinum or Platinum PaceSetter
100% match of your new Premier Platinum PaceSetter’s earnings
Premier PaceSetter or PaceSetter
50% match of your new Premier Platinum PaceSetter’s earnings
Associate
25% match of your new Premier Platinum PaceSetter’s earnings
How to Qualify
You will have the eight weeks between August 27 and midnight (MDT), October 22, 2010 to improve your PaceSetter status and your Matching Bonus payout percentage using the following guidelines:
Become a PaceSetter when, within the eight-week period, you personally sponsor two or more new Associates who activate 1 or 3 Business Centers and collectively generate 800 Sales Volume Points (SVP).
Become a Platinum PaceSetter when, within the eight-week period, you personally sponsor four or more new Associates who activate 1 or 3 Business Centers and collectively generate 1,600 SVP.
Premier PaceSetters can use this eight-week period to qualify as annual Platinum PaceSetters and improve their Matching Bonus payout.
As a Premier PaceSetter, you will qualify as an annual Platinum PaceSetter when, within the eight-week period, you personally sponsor two or more new Associates who activate 1 or 3 Business Centers and collectively generate 800 SVP.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What if I became an Associate just before Convention and was still working on finalizing my PaceSetter or Platinum PaceSetter status when the changes were announced?
A. You must finalize under the rules of the old PaceSetter program. After you have reached the end of your original qualification time you will be eligible to participate in the Convention qualification opportunity.
Q. What if my enrolment anniversary is in December? If I qualify for “annual” PaceSetter/Platinum PaceSetter now, will I have to requalify again in December?
A. Yes. Starting on the anniversary of your enrolment date, you will have eight weeks to requalify.
Q. If I am neither a PaceSetter nor a Platinum PaceSetter, can I qualify as an annual PaceSetter or Platinum PaceSetter?
A. Yes.
Q. What if I am a Premier Platinum PaceSetter? Do I need to requalify?
A. No. As a Premier Platinum PaceSetter, you will be eligible to receive a 100-percent Matching Bonus match throughout your entire USANA career.
Q. What if I was a Platinum PaceSetter before Convention? Do I need to requalify?
A. No. If you had already qualified as a Platinum PaceSetter you are now a Premier Platinum PaceSetter. If you were already qualified as a PaceSetter before Convention, you are now a Premier PaceSetter.
Q. How often will I have to requalify to earn the maximum Matching Bonus payout percentage?
A. You will have the eight-week period between August 27 and midnight (MDT) on October 22, 2010. After that, you will have to requalify during the eight-week period following your enrolment anniversary each year.
Q. If my fourth new Associate enrolls at the end of the eight-week qualification period, but all four don’t collectively generate 1,600 SVP before October 22, will I still be a Platinum PaceSetter?
A. No. You will have to meet the standards listed above in the eight-week period. All enrolments and SVP generated must occur during that eight-week period ending at midnight (MDT) on October 22.
Q. As a Premier PaceSetter, if I fail to qualify for an increase to annual Platinum PaceSetter status during the post-Convention requalification period, what will my Matching Bonus percentage be?
A. It will remain at 50 percent. As a Premier PaceSetter, you have qualified for at least 50 percent Matching Bonus payout for a lifetime. During the post-Convention requalification period, and every year starting on the anniversary of your enrolment date, you will have eight weeks to improve your status to receive Matching Bonus at the Platinum PaceSetter level for an entire year until the anniversary of your enrolment date comes up again.
Q. If I don’t take advantage of the post-Convention requalification period now, will I ever have a chance to qualify as an annual PaceSetter or Platinum PaceSetter?
A. Yes. Regardless of whether or not you take advantage of USANA’s post-Convention requalification period, you will still have eight weeks to qualify for annual PaceSetter/Platinum PaceSetter status each year beginning at the anniversary of your enrolment date.
Q. Will any SVP generated by my new Associates AFTER October 22 count toward my annual PaceSetter/Platinum PaceSetter status during this requalification period?
A. No. Any SVP generated after midnight (MDT) on October 22 will not count for the post-Convention requalification period.
Example: If four of your personally sponsored Associates collectively generate only 1,400 SVP before midnight on October 22, but they generate an extra 300 over the next two days to bring the total to 1,700, you will still qualify as a PaceSetter, not a Platinum PaceSetter.
I spend a lot of time working with new people in my group helping them develop their goals and action plans for their USANA business.
I always ask them to make the initial effort to put their goals and plans in writing, and then share them with me for review and suggestions. The main reason I do this is because, unless they develop their goals themselves, they will never take ownership of them and will likely not take the necessary actions to reach the goals.
What I usually discover in the first draft I receive from new distributors is one of two extremes:
o Very general and vague - "I want to earn $1,000.00 per week in USANA."
o Extremely detailed and mind-numbing "business plans" which would require a Harvard MBA to understand.
The first example is far too general, and doesn't provide any detail on what must be done to achieve the goal. At the end of every day, there would be no way to measure if you made any progress toward your goal.
The second example is far too detailed, and usually overwhelms people and causes "paralysis by analysis". It would be impractical to review an elaborate business plan daily to measure progress.
What's the solution?:
Start with one or two high level goals with a specific target date, and then "work backward" to develop more specific action plans to achieve the goal(s).
For example:
Primary Goal:
"Become a Gold Director in 12 months."
Good. That's a specific goal with a defined time frame.
Now, let's break that down into smaller, manageable actions steps that are needed to achieve the goal.
For example, we know that the average Gold Director has personally sponsored 30 to 40 new Distributors.
So, let's define an action step, or secondary goal, to reach the primary goal:
"Personally sponsor three new Distributors per month".
OK. That will certainly get us to our primary goal, but - How do we sponsor three new Distributors per month?
Well, let's break it down into even smaller steps................
There are many, many different ways and methods to sponsor new distributors - warm market, classified ads, purchased leads, etc., etc. The various methods, combined with the individual Distributor's belief, confidence and experience level, make it difficult to determine specifically, at least initially, how many presentations a particular Distributor would have to make to sponsor one new Distributor
For the sake of this exercise, let simply, assume that they would sponsor one out of every ten people they make a presentation to. Note: By "presentation", I am referring to an H&F Meeting, a one-on-one H&F Presentation in person, an information pack sent by snail mail or e-mail, or a telephone presentation using the H&F Presentation, Fast Facts, etc. Therefore, we would need to make thirty presentations in one month in order to sponsor three new Distributors in a month.
So, our next level goal or action step would be:
"Make 30 presentations per month."
OK - Hang in there, we're almost done.............
Not everyone we talk to is interested in learning more about becoming involved in USANA. So, we're obviously going to need to contact more than 30 people in order to schedule 30 presentations. Again, the ratio of contacts to presentations varies widely based on many variables, similar to those listed above. But, for the sake of example, let's assume that half of the people we contact would be interested in learning more about USANA, i.e., would be willing to view / attend / listen to a presentation.
So, our next level goal or action step would be:
"Make 60 contacts per month." (Or an average of two per day)
NOW we have something to grab on to. We now know that, in order to become a Gold Director in one year, (Primary Goal) you would need to make an average of two contacts per day (Single Daily Action Plan – SDA).
Now, at the end of every day, you can look back at your activities for the day, ask yourself if you took needed action to reach your primary goal, provide an answer, and rate yourself:
o Zero Contacts - "F" - failed for the day.
o One Contact - "C" - did okay, but need to do better tomorrow.
o Two Contacts - "A" - achieved my goal, and am on track to reach my primary goal.
o More than two Contacts - "A+" - I may reach my primary goal faster than my target date.
CAUTION: Don't get all hung up about the numbers in the above examples. They are simply that - examples. As you gain in experience and knowledge, you may find that more than half of the people you contact would be willing to learn more about USANA, and that more than 10% of the presentations you make will result in a signup. In fact, I KNOW that will be the case.
