10 Rules For Enrollment

10 Rules For Enrollment

- by Richard Brooke

Prospecting with integrity creates trust and respect. The intended result is to have “selling” conversations with prospects that leave them feeling heard, honored and respected – especially if they say “no.”

Rule 1: Don’t be addicted to everyone signing up.

Rule 2: Don’t beg. Beggars are not attractive.

Rule 3: There are four aces in every deck. What does it mean when people say “no”? It means … your approach could use work, and you are that much closer to a “yes.”

Rule 4: Be generous with your listening. Give the prospect the interest, respect and acknowledgement they demand. Listen to them versus expecting them to listen to you!

Rule 5: Be curious about people, period. What is most important to them? What do they like? What do they dislike? What is missing in their life?

Rule 6: Uncover “the problem.” Learn what they like and dislike about where they live and where they work. Learn about their special interests and their family. What is missing in their ability to support their family and interests?

Rule 7: Take baby steps. Tell them you’re convinced you can solve the problem with them, and ask if they would be willing to just take a look at a solution. Never insinuate or leave it to interpretation that they need to decide to join. Just ask them to look.

Rule 8: Present The Four Year Career® plan with passion. It’s your positive, convicted, confident, enthusiastic, proud, candid, honorable, honest, and authentic energy that sells. Not so much what you say, but how you say it.

Rule 9: Ask them to act now. If you believe in your solution to their problem, ask them to act now. Procrastination is the #1 killer of all accomplishments.

“I know a way that you could have done that. Would that interest you enough to take a look?”

“I’m involved in something that I know could resolve that for you. Would that interest you enough to take a look?”

“You would be really excellent in this program I’m involved with. The income you would earn would resolve that for you. Would that interest you enough to take a look?”

“I know a way that you could earn the extra income to handle that, say $______ to $______ a month. Would that interest you enough to take a look?”

Always refer to the business as a program or a “something.” Do not call it an opportunity or a business.

Be confident and speak with conviction about the program’s ability to solve their problem.

Rule 10: If they say “no,” let them go … after you ask them who they know that is a _________. (leapfrog them)

Check out my latest book, The Four Year Career, that shows how a Residual Income can be worth millions in Asset Value. It is also available in ebook format at Amazon.com & iTunes.

Exciting Management Changes to Prepare USANA for the Future

Exciting Changes to USANA’s Management Team

We’re pleased to announce changes to our management team as we prepare for the next chapter at USANA—this includes the promotions of Doug Braun to chief marketing officer, Jim Brown to chief production officer, and Dan Whitney to vice president of ethics and market expansion, as well as slight reporting changes for President of the Americas and Europe Kevin Guest, and Chief Communications Officer Dan Macuga.

This is an inspiring time of year as we prepare to celebrate our 20th International Convention. But it’s also a time to prepare for the future, and these management changes will position us for another 20 years of success and growth.

Doug Braun
Chief Marketing Officer

Doug joined USANA as vice president of marketing in December 2011 and has already made a huge impact. As chief marketing officer, he will oversee marketing, creative services, USANA Studios, and recognition.

Jim Brown
Chief Production Officer

Jim has played an integral role in USANA’s operations over the years. As chief production officer, he will take on more of a global role and oversee quality, purchasing/planning, operations, facilities maintenance, and operations for BabyCare in China.

Dan Macuga
Chief Communications Officer

Dan will take on additional responsibilities and continue to be at the forefront of USANA’s growth into the future. In addition to public relations, social media, and communications, Dan will strengthen the company’s ties to Associates by leading USANA’s North American field development department as well.

Kevin Guest
President of the Americas and Europe

As president of the Americas and Europe, Kevin will continue to oversee growth in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, as well as USANA’s marketing and recognition initiatives through the world. Kevin will also lead our quickly growing European markets.

Dan Whitney
Vice President of Ethics and Market Expansion

Dan has long been a central part of USANA’s compliance initiatives, but he also plays a key role in our international expansion. As vice president of ethics and market expansion, Dan will continue to take on a more strategic scope in these roles.

The Summer Doldrums are Here, But Not for the Smart Business Builder

The Summer Doldrums are Here, But Not for the Smart Business Builder

by Pete Zdanis

Ah, yes. Here we are in late July.

It’s that time of year when many network marketers, “take their foot off the gas”, and kick back until their business will mysteriously start to build itself at some unknown point in the future.

Here’s an excerpt from a recent conversation with a team member:

Me: How’s your business building going, Clem?

Clem: Well, Pete, it’s kinda slow. You know, people don’t want to think about starting a business during the summer.

Me: How many people have actually told you that?

Clem: Well, uh, no one has specifically told me that. But, if I HAD actually talked with any prospects this past month or two, I’m SURE that’s exactly what they would have told me.

Smart business builders know that slowing down is exactly the wrong thing to do at this time of year.

Smart business builders know there is less competition during the summer, and that creates an advantage for them.

Smart business builders know that now is the time to build and maintain business momentum as they go into the prime prospecting months of September and October when vacations are over, and the kids are back in school, the days are shorter, etc., etc.

Smart business builders know that they are doing people a favor by bringing them into the business now, and getting them trained so that their new people can benefit from the Fall business building season, too.

Smart business builders know that it’s better to build now and take 10, 20, 30 or more new team members who are in momentum into the months of September and October, rather than waiting to sponsor them later.

Smart business builders know that if they wait until after the Labor Day Holiday (in the US) to start sponsoring new people, many of their new people won’t be trained and up to speed until October or November when they will then soon encounter the “Thanksgiving and Christmas – Let’s wait until after the New Year Syndrome.”

Are you beginning to see a pattern here?

Smart business builders don’t pay attention to the “Conventional Wisdom”.

Smart business builders continually take measured action, achieve momentum, maintain it, and don’t let up for any reason.

See you in the Fall!

The Seven Truth of Network Marketing

The Seven Truths of Network Marketing

        by Michael S. Clouse

A wise man once defined success as a refined study of the obvious. How true. Most of what we need to know, say, and do to achieve mastery in Network Marketing could be easily taught—and understood—by a 12 year-old.

Why then are we making this business so difficult?

Let's agree to start teaching The Seven Truths of Network Marketing to those who actually want to create their own destiny, and leave the rest of the world alone. After all, we're involved in a great profession, with wonderful people, offering unprecedented opportunity. And we should be proud to speak the truth...

1) Network Marketing is a business.

Networking is a unique form of enterprise, and you've got to understand the game you're playing. Therefore, mentally consume every page of your distributor manual, online or the day it arrives. Listen to your audio training programs again, and again, and again. Like a song on the radio, you master the words by hearing the music one more time.

2) Freedom by the numbers.

Understand the numbers, and your compensation plan. Start by involving three or five people—whatever number of legs and leaders your plan dictates—and go to work. By your fifth year, the commissions paid on your invested efforts could well equal a mid six-figure annual income. After that, the sky's the limit.

3) Attend every live event.

The weekly presentation is part of the process. You need to be in attendance every week—to see the presentation again. Remember the music? You need the association, and the environment to showcase your company for your prospects. True, not everyone attending every meeting earns $10,000 a month. However, everyone earning $10,000 a month attends every meeting. Now that's a refined study of the obvious.

4) Work only one company.

Leaders understand this truth, because no man or woman can serve two masters.

5) Have a compelling written "Why?"

Success in Network Marketing is 20% how to, and 80% why to... The best part is, if your reasons are strong enough, you'll learn everything you need to know along your journey.

6) Invest in yourself first.

Some people are still trying to earn an exceptional wage, using an ordinary education. It can't be done. If you want to earn more, you've got to learn more. Therefore, read all the books, attend all the classes, and learn everything you possibly can.

7) Decide in writing you'll be here a year from now.

Long-term written goals possess the power to pull you right to the top of your company. Put your dreams for your future on paper, and begin building your life of magnificence.

The great Winston Churchill once said, "The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it and ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is." The Seven Truths.

All the best,
MSC

USANA Health Sciences Announces Record Second Quarter 2012 Financial Results

News Release

USANA Health Sciences Announces Record Second Quarter 2012 Financial Results
  • Second quarter net sales increased by 8.0% to $160.9 million
  • Earnings per share increased by 26.1% to $1.11 for the quarter
  • Company raises 2012 financial outlook

SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jul. 24, 2012-- USANA Health Sciences, Inc. (NYSE: USNA) today announced financial results for its fiscal second quarter ended June 30, 2012

Financial Performance
Net sales for the second quarter of 2012 increased by 8.0% to $160.9 million, compared with $148.9 million in the prior-year period. The growth in net sales was driven by increases in both the Company’s Asia Pacific and North America & Europe regions. Changes in currency exchange rates reduced net sales by $2.7 million

Net earnings for the second quarter increased to $16.7 million, an increase of 20.9%, compared with the prior-year period. This increase was due primarily to higher net sales, improved gross margins, lower relative Associate incentive expense, and a lower effective tax rate. Earnings per share for the quarter increased 26.1% to $1.11, compared with $0.88 in the second quarter of the prior year. This improvement in earnings per share resulted from higher net earnings and a lower number of diluted shares outstanding, resulting from the Company’s share repurchases over the last 12 months.

“USANA delivered solid second quarter results, which capped a very impressive first half of 2012,” said Mr. Dave Wentz, Chief Executive Officer. “During the quarter, we continued to see momentum in our business build due, in part, to our successful launch of a new component to our Associate compensation plan. This component, which is known as our Lifetime Matching Bonus, was very well received by our Associates worldwide. Along with the introduction of the Lifetime Matching Bonus, we ran a short-term sales promotion that also contributed to our positive results during the quarter.”

Regional Results
Net sales in the Asia Pacific region increased by 11.0% to $98.4 million, compared with $88.7 million for the second quarter of the prior year. This improvement was due to strong sales growth in Southeast Asia/Pacific and Greater China. This sales growth was driven by an increase in the number of active Associates as well as price increases in certain markets that were implemented in the first quarter. The number of active Associates in the Asia Pacific region increased by 10.1%, due to significant Associate growth in the Philippines, Associate growth in many other Asia Pacific markets, and the addition of Thailand to our Asia Pacific region.

“We are pleased with the continued growth in our Asia Pacific region,” continued Mr. Wentz. “During the quarter, we held a successful grand opening event in Thailand and expect momentum in that market to grow in the second half of the year. Our efforts in Asia Pacific remain focused on our Greater China region, as we continue to lay the foundation for long-term growth by developing Associate leaders there.”

During the second quarter of 2012, net sales in the North America & Europe region increased by 3.6% to $62.5 million, compared with the second quarter of the prior year. This improvement was predominantly due to higher sales in the United States and Mexico and, to a lesser extent, to the opening of France and Belgium. The number of Active Associates in North America & Europe declined modestly compared with the second quarter of 2011.

Mr. Wentz added, “Our strategy to return North America to growth is being successfully executed, and we are encouraged by the momentum we are seeing in this region. In August, we will hold our International Convention in Salt Lake City, where we plan to make several announcements that we believe will facilitate worldwide growth, especially in North America.”

The Company continued its successful track record of generating meaningful levels of cash from operations and ended the quarter with approximately $65.5 million in cash and cash equivalents. Cash generated from operations totaled $21.3 million for the quarter. During the quarter, the Company invested $26.6 million to repurchase 677,000 shares of the Company’s stock.

Outlook
The Company provided the following updated financial outlook for 2012:
  • Consolidated net sales between $630 million and $640 million, versus the previous outlook of between $610 million and $625 million
  • Earnings per share between $4.10 and $4.20, versus the previous outlook of between $3.60 and $3.70.
Chief Financial Officer Doug Hekking commented, “Leverage gained on higher sales, better than expected gross margins, and a lower effective tax rate were the main factors that contributed to our strong bottom-line performance this quarter. These same factors, as well as a reduced number of diluted shares outstanding, are the driving forces behind the increase in our earnings per share estimate for the remainder of the current fiscal year. Our strong performance during the first six months of the year has laid the foundation for what we believe will be a solid second half of 2012. As such, we are raising our financial outlook for fiscal 2012.”

USANA will hold a conference call and webcast to discuss this announcement with investors on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time. Investors may listen to the call by accessing USANA’s website at http://www.usanahealthsciences.com.

Building a Gold-Medal Team: Athletes and Your Business

Building a Gold-Medal Team: Athletes and Your Business

The London Summer Games mean two things: jaw-dropping athletic achievement on the world’s largest stage, and revisiting a love affair with synchronized swimming that’s laid dormant for about 1,400 days.

From July 27 to August 12, athletes from roughly 200 countries will compete in 26 events. It’s the world’s greatest celebration of sport, and a time when athletes are on nearly everyone’s mind. And, as a USANA Associate, they should be on yours, too.

Think about it. Wouldn’t it be cool to introduce an elite athlete—oh, I don’t know, maybe someone like undefeated light heavyweight boxer Mike Lee*—to USANA? Sure. Finding athletes to take the USANA products, and, better yet, sign up as Associates, is awesome. But how do you do that?

Let’s ask Chris Vaisnoras. Pretty sure the Silver Director would know. He’s the one who handed John Lee, Mike’s father, a sample of the USANA pack Mike still takes twice a day, every day.

Chris says it went down something like this: a tailgate before a Notre Dame football game, his Notre Dame boxing T-shirt, a conversation with someone who turns out to be John Lee, some discussion of USANA. Next thing you know, Mike and John are headed to Salt Lake City to tour the manufacturing facilities.

But what can you learn from this?

Chris had an opportunity, he had a passion for USANA, he shared it, and, here’s the key, he continued to foster the relationship. Chris built connections with people in Mike’s circle, including his former strength and conditioning coach. Through that relationship, he was able to introduce USANA to more boxers and athletes.

Here are some of the things Chris says are important to remember when attempting to introduce elite athletes to USANA:

  1. Gain the trust of people who have the athlete’s trust. Surrounding each athlete is a team of people the athlete trusts. Those are the people to talk to. Strength and conditioning coaches, trainers, doctor, or nutritionists are a good place to start.
  2. Know your competition. You have to know what else is out there. If you know the landscape of the industry, then you can speak confidently about how much better USANA is.
  3. It’s all about the products. “When you’re focusing on the athletes, it’s focusing on the quality of products,” Chris says. Ultimately, athletes want to know if it’s safe, if it works, and if it’s the best. Luckily, USANA is all of those things. And the huge number of athletes that take the products is like a resounding shout of support for those assertions.
  4. OK, it’s about the accolades, too. “You don’t get in without the accolades,” Chris says. If he wasn’t able to talk about NSF Certified for Sport and the Potency and Athlete guarantees he says he never would’ve been able to get his foot in the door.
  5. If at first you don’t succeed... It’s going to require effort and persistence. It took Chris a year of sampling and a Convention ticket to convince Mike’s former coach, but, because of that effort, he says he’ll have a Gold Director in his downline soon. The products part is already in place, but you have to take the time to build the relationship and the trust for yourself.
Like a lot of your business, it’s all about starting the conversation. And what better time is there to talk to people about athletes than during one of the biggest events in sports?

Maybe you could mention the 600-plus professional and Olympic athletes that trust their health to USANA. Maybe you could drop some names that will be appearing in London—Kim Clijsters, Sam Stosur, other USANA Brand Ambassadors from the WTA, and many more. Maybe you could share stories of Team USANA’s successes—perhaps even a few stories from our
athlete series.

Whatever you do, don’t forget to tell whoever you’re talking to how big of a deal it is to have so many elite athletes choose USANA. (Hint: It’s a huge deal. Because athletes demand the best, and refuse to put anything but the very highest quality products in their bodies.)

So get out there and start talking. Whether it’s to athletes about taking USANA’s award-winning products, or about the amazing athletes of Team USANA, there’s never a better time than now to start the conversation.

Healthy Vacationing with USANA – 6 Tips to Get You Through

Healthy Vacationing with USANA – 6 Tips to Get You Through
Las Vegas. Sin City. The ultimate adult playground, where excess is always best.

Any vacation can turn into an unhealthy nightmare, but Las Vegas is in a class all its own. Food. Drinks. Late nights. The constant, light scent of cigarette smoke wafting in between the blackjack tables and making its way through endless rows of slot machines and video poker. More food. More drinks. The sun’s rays pelting down, a constant reminder that this oasis of fun and debauchery is smack-dab in the middle of an expansive desert.

But not all is lost! With USANA’s products and a little forethought, Las Vegas (or any other vacation destination) doesn’t have the upper hand. You do.

1. Split your breakfast with a friend. If you’re like me, your stomach is smaller than your eyes. As in, as much as you feel you could eat a horse, a four-egg omelet, two pounds of hash browns, and two sizable pieces of (whole wheat!) toast is way too much to finish on your own. Instead of trying to eat everything you’re served and ending up feeling bloated, order one breakfast and ask for an extra plate so you can share. You’ll save money (hello blackjack!) and won’t be tempted to stuff yourself with extra calories. If you’re in Vegas, I recommend Mr. Lucky’s inside the Hard Rock casino. Oh, and skip the buffets.

2. Don’t forget to pack your vitamins. The best thing about USANA’s HealthPak is that they’re so darn easy to carry around on vacation. Slip one into your pocket or your purse before your breakfast and dinner meals, and no matter what you end up eating, you can at least be sure your body has the essential vitamins and minerals it needs to keep you moving all day. Maybe bring a few extras for your friends.
3. Do keep yourself hydrated. On vacation, it’s easy to forget to drink enough water. Keep your water intake up by trying to drink one glass of water after every glass of…whatever else you happen to be drinking.
4. Detox while you’re on vacation. USANA’s detox products help support your body’s natural digestion and detoxification processes, and when would you need them more than when you’re on vacation? Take Hepasil DTX™ on your next jaunt to help support your liver, and consider adding some tasteless Fibergy® Plus to some of your meals to help keep things, ahem, moving.
5. Get some exercise. Exercise on vacation? You must think I’m joking. But many vacation destinations provide ample opportunities to walk around. In Vegas, walking the strip, visiting the many different casinos, and exploring the multitude of high-end shops will not only get you out and about, but will also give you an opportunity to get some fresh air. If you’re feeling really adventurous, many hotels now offer fitness areas with treadmills, bikes, elliptical machines, and free weights.

6. Visit the pool. Vacations are a great time to get your body’s daily dose of natural vitamin D, straight from the sun. Pools provide a way to exercise and a place to relax, and in about
15 minutes or so of sun exposure, you can get all the vitamin D you need. Just remember to put on some sunscreen after that.

Don't Send Your Ducks to Eagle School

July 9, 2012

Don't Send Your Ducks to Eagle School

by Jim Rohn

The first rule of management is this: don’t send your ducks to eagle school. Why? Because it won’t work. Good people are found, not changed. They can change themselves, but you can’t change them.

If you want good people, you have to find them. If you want motivated people, you have to find them, not motivate them.

I picked up a magazine not long ago in New York that had a full-page ad in it for a hotel chain. The first line of the ad read, “We do not teach our people to be nice.” Now that got my attention. The second line said, “We hire nice people.” I thought, "what a clever shortcut!”

Motivation is a mystery. Why are some people motivated and some are not? Why does one salesperson see his first prospect at seven in the morning while the other sees his first prospect at eleven in the morning? Why would one start at seven and the other start at eleven? I don’t know. Call it “mysteries of the mind.”

I give lectures to a thousand people at a time. One walks out and says, ‘I’m going to change my life.” Another walks out with a yawn and says, “I’ve heard all this stuff before.” Why is that?

The wealthy man says to a thousand people, “I read this book, and it started me on the road to wealth.” Guess how many of the thousand go out and get the book? Answer: very few. Isn’t that incredible? Why wouldn’t everyone go get the book? Mysteries of the mind…

To one person, you have to say, “You’d better slow down. You can’t work that many hours, do that many things, go, go, go. You’re going to have a heart attack and die.” And to another person, you have to say, “When are you going to get off the couch?” What is the difference? Why wouldn’t everyone strive to be wealthy and happy?

Chalk it up to mysteries of the mind and don’t waste your time trying to turn ducks into eagles. Hire people who already have the motivation and drive to be eagles and then just let them soar.

Happy New Year 2013!

Happy New Year!

In case you didn’t realize it, today is the beginning of the new annual qualification period for USANA 2012/2013 incentives, including Fortune 25, Growth 25, 2013 International Convention Recognition, etc., etc.

It’s time for all of us to take renewed responsibility and accountability for our USANA businesses, get to work, do the right things (instead of just doing things right) and build our USANA businesses to the level that we have always wanted.

Here are some ideas to help you get off to the best possible start in your USANA New Year:

. Just as many people make New Year's resolutions in December and January, make your USANA New Year's resolutions now. Define or re-define your "Why". Set your goals and develop specific plans (Single Daily Actions) to achieve those goals. Focus on achieving them.

. Re-visit and clean up your prospect list. Prioritize your best prospects and start contacting them today. Clean out the "dead wood" on the list - don't allow them to waste your valuable time. Make one last call to those prospects who have been telling you "maybe" for all these past months. Politely tell them that you won't be contacting them again in the future, but, if they want to be a part of your success story, you would welcome the opportunity to help them create their own success story if they decide to get started now.

. As always, updated Health and Freedom newspapers, and many other marketing tools, will be introduced at Convention. Clean out your USANA tool box now, and get them into the hands of prospects before they are obsolete. Take all of the USANA business building tools that are still in the box in your closet, put them in the middle of your dining room table, and make it a goal to hand out each and every one of them before this year’s Convention. Don't move the stack from the table until you have given them all out. Put some on the front seat of your car, so you don't forget, or get caught talking with a good prospect and nothing to give to them.
. Finally, September and October are two of the best business building months of the year. Vacations are over and the kids are back in school. Do yourself and your prospects a favor by explaining to your prospects the value of joining USANA with you NOW so that they will be fully trained and ready to hit the ground running in September to take full advantage of that excellent prospecting period.

Will 2013 be your breakthrough year in USANA? Only you can decide that, and only you can make it happen.
