Big Al's Network Marketing Predictions for 2011!

Big Al's Network Marketing Predictions for 2011!

Prediction #1

Again this year, it is reported that approximately 50% of all doctors will graduate in the bottom half of their classes. By allowing these underachievers into society, sales for nutritional products should greatly increase.

Prediction #2

Personal responsibility and work ethics will decline. Many freeloaders will just hope for success, and will consider that their total commitment. You will see ads like the following in "personal" columns throughout the country: Lazy, SWM, network marketing junkie looking for SWF with established downline for marriage and financial support.

Prediction #3

The worst selling new network marketing book of 2011 will be:

"How I Turned Two Million Dollars into a Million-Dollar Fortune" by Sleaze Shallowman.

Prediction #4

You won't see the following headline on any company newsletter: Uneducated, untrained, unmotivated distributor leads company in recruiting and retail sales. Earns largest check ever in network marketing.

Prediction #5

More and more workers will continue to leave the work force and start their own part-time networking businesses. Why? They are bored or frustrated with their present jobs. Industry experts estimate that 40% of all sick days occur on Fridays and Mondays. This estimate confirms the workers' desire to leave a boring workplace environment.

Prediction #6

A new company will launch that insists that if you don't join now, it will be too late tomorrow. But what will we tell the prospects after tomorrow? This cycle will be repeated several times every day.

Prediction #7

Many unsuccessful distributors who do not have the skills to build a downline will mistakenly join yet another company with the hopes that joining a company will fix their lack of skills. This cycle will be repeated by these untrained distributors throughout the year.

Prediction #8

Many unsuccessful distributors will blame their sponsor, their company, their pricing and the general market for their failure. They won't realize that many distributors in their company are enjoying success with the same set of circumstances.

Prediction #9

Many unsuccessful distributors will stop their prospecting activities and then complain that they can't find any prospects. Resuming their prospecting activities will never occur to them.

Prediction #10

Prospects will refuse to build a network marketing business while employed. They prefer to wait until it is too late, until after they are released from their jobs. These prospects will then insist that they start their network marketing business with a full-time income.

Low Vitamin D Levels May Increase Heart Disease Risk

Low Vitamin D Levels May Increase Heart Disease Risk

At a Glance:

A study published in the journal Circulation showed that low levels of vitamin D may increase the risk of cardiovascular events, including heart attack, heart failure, or stroke. Individuals with both hypertension and low vitamin D levels had nearly double the risk of cardiovascular problems.

Read more about this research below.

Interest in vitamin D has been increasing in recent months with a growing number of studies linking the vitamin to protection against osteoporosis and certain cancers. There is also evidence that a higher intake of vitamin D may be helpful with regard to high blood pressure, fibromyalgia, diabetes mellitus, multiple sclerosis, and rheumatoid arthritis.

In a population-based study, researchers used data from 1739 participants in the Framingham Offspring Study to study the relationship between vitamin D levels and cardiovascular health risk. Although vitamin D levels above 30 ng/mL are considered optimal for bone metabolism, only 10 percent of the participants had levels in this range. In fact, 28 percent had blood levels lower than 15 ng/mL. Participants with levels below 15 ng/mL had a 62 percent greater chance to develop cardiovascular events than those with higher levels. People with low vitamin D levels and high blood pressure (> 140/90 mmHg), were found to have double the risk of cardiovascular problems compared to people with normal blood pressure and vitamin D levels.

Vitamin D is produced in the skin on exposure to UVB radiation (sunlight) and obtained in the diet from foods like oily fish, egg yolk, and liver. Recent studies have shown, however, that sunshine levels in some northern countries are so weak during the winter months that the human body makes little to no vitamin D, leading to widespread deficiencies. In addition, increased skin pigmentation also reduces the effect of UVB radiation, meaning darker skinned people are at greater risk.

The results from this study raise the possibility that treating vitamin D deficiency, by supplementation and/or lifestyle measures, could reduce the risk of cardiovascular events.

Paranoia: A Curable Disease in Direct Selling

December 13, 2010

Paranoia: A Curable Disease in Direct Selling

Paranoia: A Curable Disease in Direct Selling

Paranoia is being suspicious of the outside world until it has proven itself as trustworthy. Paranoia, in our industry appears in many areas and in many forms.

When directed towards the company oneself is affiliated with, it can take the forms like, “The President’s nephew is a distributor and s/he receives special bonuses.”, “The customer services personnel favors that leader in getting the new recruits.”, or “I have heard that those products are not actually out of stock. The company just does not sell them not to pay out more commissions.”

One can also be suspicious of his/her downline and think, “That distributor does not sell as much as he/she can so that I don’t get more commissions.” Sometimes, the upline receives similar arrows: “S/he doesn’t teach me all the secrets. My sponsor just doesn’t want me promote to a higher rank than his/her.” And there are many distributors in the organization in side teams: “I know s/he is after my distributors. I heard people saw them chatting over a coffee the other day.”, or “Whenever I come to the headquarters, s/he is always there. S/he expects to be exceptionally treated by the boss.”

And last but not least, other companies in the industry, too are provided with deep suspicions: “They keep on calling my downline to recruit them.”, “At their trainings, they constantly say bad things about our products.”

One can make a long list of such negative remarks made about others. However, paranoia is defensive, about continuously questioning the outside world without ever trusting it, searching for hidden meanings, looking at the negative side and focusing on that side all the time, and is self-destructive more than anything. It just does not help grow the business.

IOM Report on Vitamin D Disappointing, Not Unexpected

IOM Report on Vitamin D Disappointing, Not Unexpected

At a Glance:

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) released updated vitamin D recommendations this week.

Unfortunately, their new guidelines remain far short of what may actually be needed to maintain optimum vitamin D status in most adults and children.

Read more about this research below.

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) panel on vitamin D released their findings this week, and as expected, they were overly conservative in their recommendations. While they tripled their daily vitamin D recommendation from 200 to 600 IU per day for children and most adults and doubled their upper limit recommendation to 4000 IU per day, the new guidelines remain far short of what may actually be needed to maintain optimum vitamin D status in most adults and children.

Furthermore, the IOM made these recommendations with only bone health in mind as an important health factor, ignoring a very large body of accumulating research suggesting that significantly higher levels of vitamin D have multiple health benefits. In fact, nearly every credible scientist who studies vitamin D recommends and takes much higher levels.

The panel decided it was too early to use research showing protection against diabetes, heart disease, cancer, immune function, and muscle function, because – in their minds – the evidence was inconsistent and inconclusive.

While there is some debate on optimal vitamin D amounts, most conservative estimates suggest that blood levels of circulating vitamin D (25-hydroxyvitamin D) need to be above 30 ng/mL (75 nmol/L). USANA recently completed two studies on circulating vitamin D levels in adults. Our research showed that nearly 70% of adults supplementing with 600 IU vitamin D or less had circulating levels below this minimum threshold. Note too that the Linus Pauling Institute continues to recommend that generally healthy adults take 2,000 IU (50 mcg) of supplemental vitamin D daily.

It is unfortunate that the IOM did not reach the conclusion that vitamin D is important for more than just bone health. We continue to recommend that supplemental vitamin D in the range of 2000 to 4000 IU per day is much more appropriate for maintaining overall health.

USANA to Sponsor Visa Women's Ski Jumping Team

Utah company to provide vital financial support to the only women's discipline not allowed to compete in the Olympics

SALT LAKE CITY, Nov 29, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

USANA Health Sciences, Inc. (NASDAQ: USNA), a nutritional supplements manufacturer based in Salt Lake City, today announced it will be the official health supplements supplier of the Visa Women's Ski Jumping Team. The team that continues to compete on the Continental Cup circuit and has been fighting for inclusion in the Olympic Winter Games has persevered on limited funding.

"There are still hurdles to cross," says Deedee Corradini, Women's Ski Jumping USA president. "A recent International Olympic Committee (IOC) decision has made the inclusion of women's ski jumping in the 2014 Olympics contingent upon athlete performance at the Oslo World Championships in February 2011. We are grateful for USANA's sponsorship. We need all the support we can get."

Ski jumping is the only discipline in the Olympic Games that does not allow women to participate.

"It's an honor to sponsor the Visa Women's Ski Jumping Team and to help advance women in sports," says Dan Macuga, USANA's Vice President of Marketing. "We hope our financial support of these tremendous athletes will help get them the resources and recognition they deserve. We wholly support the inclusion of women's ski jumping in the Olympics and we will do our part to get them there."

Lindsey Van, of Park City, is the sport's first female world champion and has been jumping for nearly 20 years. "We've been waiting for 10 years to be included in the Games. We know we're ready and we want to show the world in Sochi 2014 what we can do."

In addition to sponsoring the Visa Women's Ski Jumping Team, USANA demonstrates its commitment to sports by sponsoring teams and organizations such as the Women's Tennis Association, US Speedskating, USA Luge and many others.

USANA - GOAL SETTING AND ACTION PLANS

GOAL SETTING AND ACTION PLANS
- by Pete Zdanis

I spend a lot of time working with new people in my group helping them develop their goals and action plans for their USANA business.

I always ask them to make the initial effort to put their goals and plans in writing, and then share them with me for review and suggestions. The main reason I do this is because, unless they develop their goals themselves, they will never take ownership of them and will likely not take the necessary actions to reach the goals.

What I usually discover in the first draft I receive from new distributors is one of two extremes:

o Very general and vague - "I want to earn $1,000.00 per week in USANA."

o Extremely detailed and mind-numbing "business plans" which would require a Harvard MBA to understand.

The first example is far too general, and doesn't provide any detail on what must be done to achieve the goal. At the end of every day, there would be no way to measure if you made any progress toward your goal.

The second example is far too detailed, and usually overwhelms people and causes "paralysis by analysis". It would be impractical to review an elaborate business plan daily to measure progress.

What's the solution?:

Start with one or two high level goals with a specific target date, and then "work backward" to develop more specific action plans to achieve the goal(s).

For example:

Primary Goal:

"Become a Gold Director in 12 months."

Good. That's a specific goal with a defined time frame.

Now, let's break that down into smaller, manageable actions steps that are needed to achieve the goal.

For example, we know that the average Gold Director has personally sponsored 30 to 40 new Distributors.

So, let's define an action step, or secondary goal, to reach the primary goal:

"Personally sponsor three new Distributors per month".

OK. That will certainly get us to our primary goal, but - How do we sponsor three new Distributors per month?

Well, let's break it down into even smaller steps................

There are many, many different ways and methods to sponsor new distributors - warm market, classified ads, purchased leads, etc., etc. The various methods, combined with the individual Distributor's belief, confidence and experience level, make it difficult to determine specifically, at least initially, how many presentations a particular Distributor would have to make to sponsor one new Distributor

For the sake of this exercise, let simply, assume that they would sponsor one out of every ten people they make a presentation to. Note: By "presentation", I am referring to an H&F Meeting, a one-on-one H&F Presentation in person, an information pack sent by snail mail or e-mail, or a telephone presentation using the H&F Presentation, Fast Facts, etc. Therefore, we would need to make thirty presentations in one month in order to sponsor three new Distributors in a month.

So, our next level goal or action step would be:

"Make 30 presentations per month."

OK - Hang in there, we're almost done.............

Not everyone we talk to is interested in learning more about becoming involved in USANA. So, we're obviously going to need to contact more than 30 people in order to schedule 30 presentations. Again, the ratio of contacts to presentations varies widely based on many variables, similar to those listed above. But, for the sake of example, let's assume that half of the people we contact would be interested in learning more about USANA, i.e., would be willing to view / attend / listen to a presentation.

So, our next level goal or action step would be:

"Make 60 contacts per month." (Or an average of two per day)

NOW we have something to grab on to. We now know that, in order to become a Gold Director in one year, (Primary Goal) you would need to make an average of two contacts per day (Single Daily Action Plan – SDA).

Now, at the end of every day, you can look back at your activities for the day, ask yourself if you took needed action to reach your primary goal, provide an answer, and rate yourself:

o Zero Contacts - "F" - failed for the day.

o One Contact - "C" - did okay, but need to do better tomorrow.

o Two Contacts - "A" - achieved my goal, and am on track to reach my primary goal.

o More than two Contacts - "A+" - I may reach my primary goal faster than my target date.

CAUTION: Don't get all hung up about the numbers in the above examples. They are simply that - examples. As you gain in experience and knowledge, you may find that more than half of the people you contact would be willing to learn more about USANA, and that more than 10% of the presentations you make will result in a signup. In fact, I KNOW that will be the case.

Best of success!
