No Whiners Allowed
- by Pete Zdanis
I don’t know if it’s the hot weather, heat rash or what’s going on, but there seems to be a lot of grumpiness and whining going on lately.
WARNING: Don’t acknowledge it, condone it or participate in it. If you do, it will absolutely suck the energy out of you, and you’ll become as unproductive as the whiner who started everything.
My advice: Simply smile and pleasantly ask – “I’m sorry to hear that. What can I do to help you?” – and then just sit back and listen.
Surprisingly, some people just need someone to listen to them, and that can make all the difference in the world in helping them turn things around and get back on track.
Others will have legitimate questions and concerns about things such as the business, products, compensation plan, etc. that you can address for them, or suggest resources (The BDS, eApprentice, USANA Today, Ask Andy, etc.) which can help them.
Then, there sometimes will those people who try to make THEIR problems become YOUR problems – No time, no money, no prospects, family disapproval, the economy, etc.
Remember that you cannot solve their problems (especially since some of them are often only excuses disguised as problems).
You can, and should, be empathetic, but don’t take on someone else’s burdens. You have enough of your own.
Simply offer your understanding, possibly some advice if you have any, and then let them know that you will always be available for them whenever they decide to start (or re-start) building their USANA business.
Finally, always remember that you can’t say the wrong things to the right people, and you can’t say the right things to the wrong people.
Knowing this difference will have a major positive impact on your personal mental health and well-being.
As far as that heat rash thing goes, remember - Fall is just around the corner! :-)
